Halloween is a fun and festive holiday, candy and treats are as abundant as ghosts and goblins. Now that Halloween is over, don't let leftover treats trick you into over indulgence! Whether your children came home from trick or treating with a sack full of candy, or you have leftover candy from over-buying for trick or treaters, don't let that extra candy sabotage your healthy eating intentions.

Remember, for children and adults, moderation is key! Monitor your children's candy consumption, and limit treats to 1-2 per day. Follow the same rule for yourself! Keep candy in an out of sight place to avoid mindless snacking.

Remember, those fun-size candy bars add up!
  • A fun-size Snickers has 80 calories and 4 grams of fat. 4 of those adds up to more than a whole Snickers bar!
  • A fun-size pack of M&Ms has over 100 calories, and 4 grams of fat, nearly half of a whole bag!
  • A better choice is a candy that takes a longer time to eat, such as hard candies or suckers.
Don't let Halloween candy linger in your home for more than 2 weeks. Give it away or throw it out. We are coming in on the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, and there will be more treats to come! Start practicing moderation now to cruise through the holiday season without packing on extra pounds!
